What is Wplace.live?

Wplace.live is a collaborative, real-time pixel art platform where users can draw pixel-by-pixel on a massive digital canvas overlaid on a world map. Launched in July 2025 by Murilo Matsubara, it’s inspired by Reddit’s r/place, but instead of a blank canvas, users paint on a map with over 4 trillion pixels. Each user can place one pixel every 30 seconds, with 30 pixels available initially, encouraging both solo and group creations. The site features leaderboards to track pixel placement by country and supports logins via Google or Twitch. Artworks often reflect local culture, fandoms (e.g., video game characters like those from Deltarune or The Legend of Zelda), or memes, with some areas showing coordinated efforts or "turf wars" between communities.
